This 480 hour state certification course for firefighters is
a mentally, physically and emotionally challenging program that
includes extensive classroom and practical elements. Three 480
hour (12 week) daytime classes are held each year. All classes
are held at the Florida State Fire College campus, located on
County Road 25A in northwest Marion County. For more information,

Firefighter II
(Firefighter Minimum Standards - 240 hours)

This minimum standards certification course is for certified
Firefighter. It is a mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging
program that includes extensive classroom and practical elements.
The 240-hour course runs for six consecutive weeks. All classes
will be held at the Florida State Fire College campus, located
on County Road 25A in northwest Marion County. All class sessions
are presented regardless of weather conditions and no absences
are permitted.

Firefighter Skills Refresher
(Minimum Standards)

Offered by Marion County Community Technical and Adult Education
and located at the Florida State Fire College. Florida Resident
$150.00 Registration /Lab Fee (payable to Marion County School
Board). Out of State Registration/Lab Fee $275.00.
This three day (24 hour) course runs from Friday Through Sunday
(8:00 am to 5:00 pm) and is designed for firefighters whose certification
is nearing expiration and must be re-tested on their individual
skills to retain certification under Chapter 633.352 of the Florida
Statutes. This course consists of refreshing and polishing those
practical skills, in which you were originally certified, prior
to your re-test date.
To participate in the refresher course, you must submit a completed
medical examination form (D14-1622) signed and dated not
more than 6 months prior to the date of the course.
You must provide the following items of personal equipment:
- Protective hood (Kevlar, Nomex, or PBI)
- Gloves for fire fighting
work
- Companion Tool (8-12 feet of 1/2 inch rope, not cotton,
manila or sisal)
- Firefighting Boots to NFPA standard
- Turnout coat and pants
to NFPA 1971 standard
- Fire helmet
